Gremio president hopes to tempt Cavani to Brazil

Gremio president Romildo Bolzan Junior hopes to hold talks with Edinson Cavani over a move to the Brazilian club.

Cavani is a free agent, having left Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract in June after seven successful seasons in Paris.

The club s all-time record goal-scorer with 200 in all competitions, Cavani has been linked with a host of European clubs including Inter, Bayern Munich and, more recently, Barcelona.

It has also been suggested the 33-year-old could choose to return to South America, with Gremio among the clubs said to be interested.

Vice-president Paulo Luz denied holding talks with Cavani s representative, but Romildo does not appear ready to abandon the dream of signing the Uruguay star.

Prediction: RB Leipzig vs PSG

Best Odds: 20/21

Bookmaker:

Two sides who grabbed dramatic late winners last week, RB Leipzig and PSG will meet out in Portugal on Tuesday night with a spot in the final of this year s Champions League up for grabs.

RB Leipzig

Starting with RB Leipzig, watching Tyler Adams bag his first strike for the Red Bulls in the 88th-minute last week, the German outfit managed to pick up a deserved 2-1 win against former Champions League finalists Atletico Madrid and some have branded them as a real dark horse this summer. Although the much-praised Julian Nagelsmann might have seen Timo Werner make the move to Premier League side Chelsea this summer, they have enjoyed a record-breaking European campaign just 11 years after the club was formed. Managing to secure another t…

Saka wants more after opening Arsenal account

Bukayo Saka scored his first Arsenal goal in Thursday s 3-0 Europa League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt and already has his sights set on more.

Saka, 18, came in as one of seven changes made by Unai Emery from the team that suffered a second-half collapse to draw 2-2 with Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

The teenage winger, making just his second start for the club, set up Joe Willock for the first-half opener and drew a foul from Dominik Kohr that resulted in the Eintracht midfielder s second yellow card with 11 minutes remaining.

Saka was key to Arsenal capitalising on their numerical advantage, bending home a fine finish from the edge of the box and releasing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to cap an impressive victory at the Commerzbank-Arena.

Solskjaer makes case for Man Utd defence: We´ve got enough good centre-backs

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted a lack of sharpness was the reason behind Manchester United conceding goals as he ruled out adding a centre-back in the transfer window.

United secured a 3-2 win at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday thanks to a last-gasp penalty from Bruno Fernandes, who converted from the spot in the 10th minute of additional time.

However, having conceded three times when losing their Premier League opener at home to Crystal Palace, defensive deficiencies were again a topic of conversation after the final whistle on the south coast.

Neal Maupay and Solly March both scored for Brighton, the latter in the 95th minute to make it 2-2, while the home side were denied five times by the woodwork as they had 18 attempts at goal.

Milan have room to grow after valuable lesson in Liverpool loss – Pioli

Stefano Pioli insisted Milan learnt a valuable lesson following their entertaining 3-2 defeat to Liverpool upon the club s return to the Champions League.

Milan were featuring in the Champions League for the first time since 2014 and the seven-time winners threatened an upset at Anfield, where the visitors surprisingly claimed a 2-1 half-time lead.

´Mo has morphed into Messi´ – Salah wonder strike hailed by Lineker and Carragher

Is Mohamed Salah the best player in the world? Jamie Carragher has no doubt after the Liverpool forward s stupendous goal at Watford drew immediate comparisons with Lionel Messi.

Former England striker Gary Lineker compared the wonder strike to a Lionel Messi special after the Egyptian put Jurgen Klopp s Reds 4-0 up at Vicarage Road, on the way to a 5-0 win.

Salah received the ball on the edge of the Watford penalty area and was surrounded by home defenders, but he showed supreme close control to weave a path beyond Craig Cathcart, Juan Hernandez and Juraj Kucka before whipping a clinical finish into the far corner.

It was a goal that had the hallmarks of a Messi or Diego Maradona masterpiece, with Salah s astonishing footwork leaving the defenders…

Steve Clarke aware Norway have ‘a lot of good players’ as well as Erling Haaland

Steve Clarke insisted there is more to Norway than Erling Haaland after naming his squad for the resumption of Scotland’s European Championship qualification campaign in Oslo.

The Scots, who began their Euro 2024 qualifiers in March with impressive home wins over Cyprus and Spain, travel to Norway for their June 17 clash before hosting Georgia at Hampden Park three days later.

Clarke’s side face the daunting task, in the first match of the double-header, of trying to stop 22-year-old Manchester City striker Haaland, who has scored a staggering 58 goals in all competitions so far this season.

Speaking in Glasgow’s George Square at the McDonald’s Fun Football Festival, which is part of the Scottish Football Association’s week of football, he said: “Ther…
